In-season Pickup Baseball

(Saturday pickup games when the BAMSBL is playing on Sundays)

I’ve been told getting in-season/Saturday pickup baseball up and running is near impossible. I’m going to try anyway.

Interested Players:

We’d like to know who is available for Saturday pickup games on weekends when the BAMSBL has games on Sundays - Summer and fall.

If there's enough interest we'll move forward with scheduling games.  Send me an email and I'll put you on the list of interested players.

(Off season and holiday weekend pickup games will continue to be on Sundays, usually.)

Whether you're on a Sunday team or not, let me know if you're interested/available to play in pickup games on Saturdays during the BAMSBL spring/summer and/or fall season.

Doug, a good ball player and hero to pickup baseball fans everywhere, is helping run pickup baseball right now.  His work schedule is such that joining a BAMSBL team is problematic.  Pickup baseball, if it was every week/52 weeks a year, would be perfect for him and I suspect a lot of other players who aren't on teams for any number of reasons.

The idea is to have 52 pickup games a year, minus rainouts, of course.  When I was on the BAMSBL board in 2011 we talked about doing in-season/Saturday pickup games but it never went anywhere, it didn't have enough support.

As I am on a BAMSBL spring/summer and a fall team, Doug and 2 other players/managers will handle games at the yard when I'm playing in BAMSBL games, both spring/summer and fall ball.

Pickup Baseball Managers:

We're looking for 1 and hopefully 2 super dependable players who have 3 good bases and clean, good quality catcher's gear including catcher's mitt.

You'll need to have 3 good bases and catcher's gear and mitt in good condition.  If you don't have the gear and you’re willing to buy it that works too if you want to help run pickup baseball.  Most games there are catchers who have their own gear but we need to have it just in case.  My catcher's gear was last used Sunday, March 17, 2024.  And we have high standards here at Bay Area Pickup Baseball, catcher's masks/helmets are washed frequently.  :-)  Jonas was appreciative of the fact that my gear was not only in good condition but also that the hockey style mask was clean.

Doug and 1 or 2 others will be handling pickup games at the yard when I'm not there.  I'll still handle the website, guest book and waivers during the week.  So for Doug and the 1 or 2 other managers their duties will be limited to what they'll need to do when they get to the yard.  They'll set up their bases, have catcher's gear available, pay the ump and give him the game balls, make sure everyone has paid and help pick teams.  You won't have to do anything during the week - game day only.

If you want to help Doug and me run in-season/Saturday pickup baseball let us know and we can discuss further.

Thanks,
